Director, State Utility Forecasting Group

Job Summary

The State Utility Forecasting Group (SUFG) is required by Indiana Code 8-1-8.5 to “develop and keep current a methodology for forecasting the probable future growth of the use of electricity within Indiana and within this region of the nation.” 


The Director is directly responsible for the following:

  • Acquiring the external funding needed to support SUFG’s research activities, including determining future research activities, writing grant proposals, developing budgets, and serving as the Principal Investigator (PI). The PI is responsible for the scientific integrity of the research; directing the research activities; financial oversight; and compliance with university, government, and sponsor regulations and conditions.
  • Serving as SUFG’s primary liaison with state government agencies, state legislators, industry, non-governmental organizations, the media, university administration, and faculty. This includes providing expert testimony in legislative and regulatory hearings, responding to requests for analysis of pertinent issues, and speaking at a wide range of events to both technical and non-technical audiences.


The functioning of SUFG, including leading current research activities, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality work products, and managing staff.


Required:

  • Master's degree in economics, engineering, science, or related discipline
  • Six (6) years of experience in utility planning, forecasting, regulation, and/or policy, as well as supervisory experience 
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Basic knowledge of econometrics, statistical methods, forecasting techniques, optimization and/or operations research
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Proven leadership and management skills required for problem-solving, taking initiative, and meeting deadlines

 

Preferred:

  • Ph.D. 
  • Working knowledge of electrical power systems
