Director of Veterinary Teaching Hospital

Job Summary

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH).  The VTH Director is a member of the Senior Leadership Team of the College and reports directly to the Dean.  Based on credentials and experience, the candidate may be eligible for a professional (non-faculty) or academic position at the rank of Associate/Full (Clinical or Tenure-track) Professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine.  The VTH Director is responsible for leadership of the VTH including development of a strategic vision, implementation of sound fiscal strategies and creation of a culture that fosters excellence in client service and patient care in a teaching/learning environment consistent with the College’s strategic plan. The Director will work closely with the Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department Head and Director of the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory to ensure that the learning, discovery, and engagement missions of the College are supported.  The VTH Director will be a dynamic, positive, innovative and forward-thinking individual with excellent interpersonal and management skills.  The Director will promote a positive, supportive and inclusive working environment that fosters teamwork, cooperation, and innovation.

Limited direct participation in teaching, clinical service and research can be accommodated.

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital (http://vet.purdue.edu/vth/) has an annual budget of approximately $14,500,000.  The caseload has grown steadily over the past 5 years to an annual caseload of approximately 19,000 patients seen on site and 84,134 animals seen through the ambulatory services.  VTH personnel includes approximately 60 faculty/clinicians from the Departments of Veterinary Clinical Sciences and Comparative Pathobiology and the VTH, 47 house officers, 88 veterinary nurses, and over 60 other staff.

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • Five or more years of experience in clinical practice or leadership in industry
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership along with administrative and human resources skills
  • Aptitude in financial and general business management
