Electronics Specialist

What You'll Be Doing:

 

This position represents a dual-level posting and will be filled as an Electronics Specialist (SK2) or Senior Electronics Specialist (SK3).  The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.

 

The Electronics Specialist / Senior Electronics Specialist is responsible for the design, fabrication, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and calibration of electrical, electronic, and electromechanical equipment, both analog and digital, in various facilities within the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The successful candidate will also advise faculty, staff, and students regarding equipment and work with undergraduate and graduate students on research projects. Additionally, the Senior Electronics Technician will consult with vendors, fabricators, and employees in an effort to understand equipment needs.

What We Are Looking For:

 

Electronics Specialist (SK2):

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in electronics, electronic technology, or closely related field
  • One (1) year of experience designing, fabricating, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, electronic, and electromechanical apparatus and equipment, both analog and digital
  • In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of required education and work experience will be considered (HS diploma/GED and 3 years of experience).

 

Senior Electronics Specialist (SK3):

 

Required Education and Experience (SK2/SK3):

  • Associate’s degree in electronics, electronic technology, or closely related field
  • Two (2) years of experience designing, fabricating, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, electronic, and electromechanical apparatus and equipment, both analog and digital
  • In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of required education and work experience will be considered (HS diploma/GED and 4 years of experience).

 

Required Skills:

  • Working knowledge of electronic, electrical, and electromechanical equipment and apparatus
  • Ability to design and fabricate new equipment
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Good communication (oral and written), problem-solving, analytical, math, and customer-service skills
  • Able to build and maintain good work relationships with a diverse workforce, including faculty, staff, students, and outside vendors
  • Good record keeping skills

 

Preferred:

  • Associate's degree in electronics, electronic technology, or closely related field
