Environmental Safety Technician – Restoration

Are you someone who enjoys hands-on problem-solving, responding to real-world challenges, and helping maintain safe and functional environments? Administrative Operations is seeking an Environmental Safety Technician – Restoration to support Environmental Health and Safety professionals specializing in water intrusion response and remediation.
In this role, you will serve as a key responder to water-related incidents across campus, helping evaluate damage, develop restoration plans, coordinate resources, and execute remediation activities. You will work closely with university staff, customers, and operational partners to restore impacted spaces while ensuring compliance with university policies and applicable regulations. This position also plays an important role in emergency response efforts and requires participation in a 24-hour on-call rotation.
What You'll Do
- Respond to water intrusion events including domestic water, stormwater, process water, and sewage incidents
- Assess damage, recommend restoration strategies, and coordinate resources needed to minimize impact and restore affected areas
- Plan and execute remediation activities, monitor effectiveness, and adjust response efforts as needed
- Work collaboratively with project managers, operations and maintenance teams, researchers, building representatives, and Environmental Health and Safety colleagues
- Communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders throughout restoration projects
- Participate in after-hours emergency response and on-call duties for flood and restoration incidents
- Support Purdue's commitment to safety, operational excellence, and customer service

What We're Looking For
Education and Experience Required:
- High School Degree or High School Equivalency (HSE)
- Three (3) years of previous experience working with hazardous materials or restoration
- or three (3) years of experience in a similar position in industry, government or academia may also be considered
- Valid driver's license required
Skills Required:
- Must be able to:
- wear personal protective equipment including a respirator
- lift and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 + lbs occasionally
- Must pass an initial and annual basic medical exam
- Must conform to applicable regulatory and safety requirements
- Must comply with Purdue's driving policy
- Must have:
- the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and have mutual trust and respect for others
- high ethical and professional behavior standards
- strong work organization skills
- May involve exposure to extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, closed spaces and lifting requirements over 100 pounds
- A strong commitment to customer service and the Administrative Operations strategic goals is essential
- Basic computer skills and Microsoft Office experience are required
- Good written and verbal communication skills
