Job Summary

The Facility Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of assigned buildings, ensuring safety, compliance, and efficiency in facility operations, vendor coordination, and maintenance services. This role proactively identifies, tracks, and resolves facility-related issues, ensuring minimal disruptions to research, academic, and operational functions.

 

This position directly aligns with Physical Facilities Four Pillars of Facility Management:
1.    Facility Management – Coordinates/manages building operations with maintenance, custodial services, and work orders.
2.    Project Management – Manages small-scale facility modifications and vendor services.
3.    Special Projects – Supports facility data collection, sustainability initiatives, and process improvements.
4.    Long-Term Strategic Facility Planning – Assists in tracking space utilization, infrastructure assessments, and planning efforts.

The Facility Manager serves as the primary liaison between building occupants, Facilities Operations, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Physical Facilities, and external vendors to ensure all facility needs are met efficiently.

What We're Looking For

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facility Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of one (1) + year of experience in facility operations and IFMA Facility Management Professional (FMP) certification, or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire, or
    • Associate’s degree with three (3)+ years of progressive experience in facility operations or management
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position

 

Preferred:

  • IFMA Facility Management Professional (FMP)
  • Experience in higher education or research facility management
  • OSHA 10 or equivalent safety certification

 

Skills Needed:

  • Understanding of:
    • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and building automation systems
    • campus emergency procedures and building evacuation plans
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EH&S, ADA, and fire safety standards
  • Strong:
    • ability to engage with faculty, staff, leadership, and external vendors to resolve facility concerns
    • decision-making skills in emergency situations
    • ability to prioritize and coordinate maintenance tasks, repairs, and custodial services
  • Experience:
    • managing key/fob access, surveillance systems, and security protocols
    • using Maximo, SAP, or other facility management software to manage work orders and track facility issues
    • in tracking space utilization, monitoring energy efficiency, and reporting on building performance metrics
    • managing facility-related communications, including tenant updates and service notifications
    • coordinating small-scale renovations, furniture installations, and non-capital projects
  • Ability to:
    • identify, troubleshoot, and resolve facility-related issues efficiently
    • analyze data and make recommendations for facility improvements
    • create basic project scopes, timelines, and budget estimates
    • conduct building safety inspections and enforce compliance regulations
    • negotiate, oversee vendor work, and ensure service agreements meet university standards
    • read and interpret building blueprints and facility layouts

The anticipated annual salary for this position is $54,996.00  commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience. The final salary offer will be determined based on a variety of factors, including equity, available budget, educational background, and relevant experience.
