Postdoctoral Fellow, Public Health, Purdue University

 

The Department of Public Health at Purdue University is offering a postdoctoral fellowship opportunity in the area of cervical cancer disparities under the supervision of Dr. Natalia Rodriguez. This NIH-funded project engages diverse stakeholders (medical providers, community health workers, patients, and community partners) to examine multilevel determinants of cervical cancer in Hispanic/Latinx communities in Indiana and inform innovative cervical cancer screening interventions.

This project is part of a broader, interdisciplinary translational research program on technologies to address health disparities. The fellow will work closely with the Health Techquity Lab team of public health researchers, biomedical engineers, anthropologists, and community health workers. The fellow will benefit from access to shared resources and collaborators through the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute; the Center for Health Equity and Innovation; the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering, the Purdue Institute of Inflammation, Immunology and Infectious Disease; the NCI-funded Purdue Center for Cancer Research, Advanced Methods at Purdue, the Indiana University Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Center for HPV research.

The postdoctoral fellow will lead various aims of the project and will be expected to conduct statistical analyses, publish first- and co-authored manuscripts, present findings at national conferences, and prepare grant applications to establish research independence. Minimum one-year commitment is required. The position has the potential to be renewed for multiple years pending successful first year.

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • A Ph.D. in Public Health, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or other related field completed by the start of the employment.
  • Strong quantitative analytical skills and experience with statistical analysis packages (e.g. SPSS, SAS, R, or STATA) required.
  • Experience working with cancer registry data, patient medical records, and/or survey data is preferred.
  • Experience with qualitative and/or mixed-methods research is beneficial.
  • Excellent writing skills and experience with submitting manuscripts to academic journals is essential.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as be part of a team.
  • Great organization skills and attention to detail.

Salary is aligned with NIH F32 rates and will be commensurate with the applicants’ experience and training. Additional funding is available for travel, presentations, and research expenses.
