Global Lead for External Relations and Capacity Development

Job Summary

The Department of Entomology is seeking a Global Lead for External Relations and Capacity Development. In this role, you will be responsible for expanding and maintaining partnerships for the purpose of education (conference and continuing educational efforts), social-science oriented industrial research, and capacity development between the Urban Center and private sector partners, government, non-government organizations, and other agencies that advocate for the urban pest management community. This includes developing new partnerships as well as discerning the needs and proposing Urban Center responses to those needs. A large part of these relationships is identifying and responding to industry capacity development needs through certificate courses, co-sponsored courses, novel educational programs to be launched by the center, and conferences. The Global Lead for External Relations and Capacity Development works with the Associate Director and Director around resource capture for the Center around these aforementioned activities as well as works both nationally and internationally to expand the client base for and participation in Urban Center training products as well as assist the Urban Center in identifying and developing new course materials as deemed feasible and supportive of Urban Center goals.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development or related field
  • 6 years of relevant, professional experience
  • International development and interdisciplinarity experience
  • Knowledge of higher education (academic) research and development landscapes and their potential applications
  • Experience working in a global workplace
  • Knowledge of USAID, USDA, and other major donor agencies
  • Knowledge of and experience with government programs and funding mechanisms
  • Knowledge of and experience in project management principles and practices
  • Knowledge of and experience in capacity development principles and practices
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to apply data and information to make sound conclusions and recommendations
  • Ability to work collaboratively and foster a cooperative work environment with research faculty, university research administration, graduate students, Urban Center colleagues and others at all levels who are engaged in Urban Center activities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Nice to have:

  • Graduate degree (MA/MS/PhD) in international development or related field
  • 5 years minimum of work in international contexts
  • 5 years of capacity development experience on funded projects
  • Experience and ability to work with virtual platforms
  • Experience in cross-culture programs
  • Experience in the private sector especially in the realm of small business and/or international business operations
  • Experience in understanding public attitudes and perceptions to industry as it relates to ecological concerns
  • Experience in event organization
  • Experience in management and hosting of international conferences, especially in a developing nation context
  • Project management experience
