Job Summary

General Description:

The University Residences Graduate Assistant will be responsible for the development and implementation of programs geared towards students living in University Residences. This position requires ongoing collaboration with University Residences staff and plays a critical role in ensuring that engagement and retention goals for students are met.


Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with university student populations.
  • Must have exceptional time management skills.
  • Motivated and able to work independently. 
  • Ability to work with different computer programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Be familiar with social media.
  • Must meet deadlines.


Responsibilities for one or more of the following functional areas:

  • Advising student organization(s).
  • Supervision of student staff.
  • Conduct outreach to students living on campus.
  • Coordinate and implement social and educational programs.
  • Identify and utilize campus and community resources for specific job focus.
  • Connect students to University resources.
  • Assess programs and generate reports.
  • Maintain weekly meetings with supervisor.
  • Meet with students regularly through the semester.
  • Be willing to work evenings and weekends.
  • Assist with other University Residences initiatives and programs.

Time Commitment:

  • The University Residences Graduate Assistant position requires 20 hours of work per week. 
  • Work will be completed during regular business hours, evenings, and weekends.
  • Work schedule must be previously negotiated and approved by supervisor. 
  • There will be multiple Graduate Assistant positions, each with a different focus dependent on department need at time of hire and as semester progresses.
