Job Summary
Maintain sports turf for the Intercollegiate Athletic Department by operating turf maintenance equipment, perform hand trimming on small turf areas, operate irrigation system, assist with the application of chemicals and fertilizers, daily turf repairs on practice fields, debris clearance, tree and shrub maintenance, painting, equipment maintenance.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Perform general sports turf maintenance such as mowing football fields, baseball fields, track complex, tennis area, softball fields, soccer complex, grand prix facility, practice fields, all border areas adjacent to athletic facilities and parking lots, all push mowing and string trimming of border edges and around trees and shrubs.
- Perform over seeding, re-sodding, tree and limb removal, leaf collection, aerifying turf areas.
- Assist with fertilization and chemical application, general landscaping, hand weeding of flower and shrub beds, shrub trimming, carpentry, painting, general clean up, and minor repairs.
- Assist with stadium and arena clean up and snow removal.
- Utilize tractors, front loaders, skid loader, forklift, pickup trucks, trencher, auger, rotary and reel mowers, hand held power equipment, sod cutter, power roller, chain saw, string trimmer.
- Assist with turf irrigation by watering areas when applicable; perform maintenance on system and repairs.
- Assign work to student or part time employees as needed.
- Train and oversee the work for quality.
- Perform mechanical maintenance on equipment as needed including general equipment repair, winter reconditioning, blade sharpening.
- Perform preparations for athletic events such as pregame baseball, softball, and soccer equipment set-up, infield preparation, mound maintenance, between game repairs.
- Prepare and maintain other facilities as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Overtime may be required to complete daily assignment.

What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience:
- HS diploma/GED
- Three (3) years’ experience in knowledge of mowers, string trimming, turf maintenance procedures, irrigation procedures
Skills needed:
- Knowledge of pesticide spraying is necessary.
- Must obtain 3A/3B pesticide applicator certifications within 1 year of employment.
- HEAVY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Lift and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently, and up to 100+ lbs.
