- Successful candidates may choose to attend summer school at their own expense
Hours/Week
- Summer average, 20-40 hours per week (Minimum required hours per week: 20)
- Required hours include weekends, evenings, overnights, and holidays
- Required on-call rotation
- Required to live-in for the duration of the summer season
- It is expected no more than 1 summer course per module will be taken
- Additional employment is permitted only at the approval of supervisor

Job Description
The Indianapolis Summer Residential Operations Specialist (SROS) position is a key role within the Summer School Residential Life program and Summer Intern Housing, offering a unique opportunity to develop leadership and organizational skills. As an SROS, you’ll be an essential point of contact between summer residents and the ResLife team, ensuring a smooth, supportive, and safe living environment for all. In this hands-on, front-line position, you’ll have the chance to foster community, assist with residential programming, and handle important administrative tasks. From leading activities and helping with check-ins/check-outs to responding to emergencies, you’ll be a crucial part of creating a positive and organized experience for all summer residents. This role requires a commitment to customer service, communication, and teamwork, making it a great opportunity for students looking to enhance their skills while making a difference.
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable of University Residences office processes and have some customer service experience.
Position Information
Prerequisite
Previous or current experience as a Resident Assistant (RA) in Indianapolis or West Lafayette, a Community Assistant, Staffing Assistant, or Academic year Student Office Staff (SOS) or Student Office Coordinator (SOC) for University Residences or equivalent is preferred but not required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one semester of college coursework completed
- Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University, Purdue University Global, or a local accredited college
- Previous work experience within University Residences preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Flexible and dependable with strong attention to detail
- Problem solving, logic, and reasoning skills
- Customer service oriented
- Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Be timely and organized
Position Responsibilities

- Assemble and distribute resident materials
- Participating in summer employee training
- Fulfill on-call responsibilities as part of a scheduled rotation
- Use a room management system to properly check participants in and out of their rooms
- Organize participant keys and program meal cards before each group’s arrival
- Conduct nightly interior and exterior safety rounds for all buildings within the assigned zone
- Create and place proper signage including door decorations
- Prepare hall bulletin boards on each floor with pertinent safety and hall information
- Attend/assist with all check-ins/check-outs (typically weekends); ensure check-in area is set up 1 hour prior
- Distribute pertinent event information to program attendees and summer residents
- Attend regular staff meetings
- Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive personal information
- Bodily fluid cleanup
- Report job hazards to the zone management team, respond to emergencies, complete Incident Reports or other appropriate documents as needed
- Report policy violations and/or University Residence regulation policy
- Work at the front desk at North Hall and LUX on Capitol to assist with arrivals/departures of summer residents
- Exhibit friendliness, diplomacy, and tact when responding to customers
- Manage emergencies and prioritize responsibilities while providing quality customer service
- Complete and submit repair requests online as needed
- Accountable for proper handling and security of all issued keys, safe access, and hall property
- Exemplify promptness, initiative, adaptability, high ethical standards, professional appearance, and demeanor as part of the program team.
