The SK2 High Voltage Electrician will serve as High Voltage Technician. Through on the job training, classroom training and the High Voltage Apprenticeship program gain experience in all of the following areas: construction, inspection, maintenance and repairs of University primary electrical systems, boulevard lighting; primary and secondary underground and aerial services and all other high voltage systems and connections. Working with voltages from 120V to 12,470V. On 24-hour call, irregular planned and unplanned overtime required.
The SK3 High Voltage Electrician will serve as High Voltage Technician installing, construction, inspection, maintenance, and repairs of university primary electrical systems, boulevard lighting; primary and secondary underground and aerial services, and all other high voltage systems and connections. Working with voltages from 120V to 12,470V. Train SK2 level employees on advanced knowledge of High Voltage troubleshooting techniques and system operations. On 24-hour calls, irregular planned and unplanned overtime is required.
This is a dual level posting where the hiring manager will determine the level commensurate with the experience of the candidate.
What We're Looking For
Education and Experience Required:
For the SK2 High Voltage Electrician you will need the following:
- High School Degree or High School Equivalency (HSE)
- Three (3) years of extensive experience in electrical theory and practice are required
- Experience with University primary and secondary distribution systems desired
- Familiarity with transformer connections and voltages and all phases of the aerial and underground line construction and repair desired
For the SK3 High Voltage Electrician you will need the above and the following:
- Four (5) years of extensive experience in electrical theory and practice are required
- Three (3) years of extensive experience in working with voltages 2400V or above
- Class A CDL
Skills Needed:
For both positions you will need the following:
- Must:
- have the ability to successfully complete the High Voltage Apprenticeship program within the timeline outlined for the program
- be able to climb ladders and scaffolds and work from heights up to 100 feet
- Commercial Driver’s License is required within 90 days
- Must maintain Commercial Driver’s License
- Strong oral and written communication skills are required
- Basic computer skills with word processing and spreadsheets desired
- Exposed to hazardous conditions associated with high voltage electricity
- Required to work outdoors 75% of the time in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees
- Ability to:
- perform mathematical calculations desired
- lift and carry 50 to 80 lbs frequently; and up to 100 lbs or more occasionally required
- work under a variety of conditions, such as confined space (tunnels, pit), heights, and hot/cold conditions
