Infection Control Nurse Educator

Job Summary

The Infection Prevention Nurse Educator (IPNE) is responsible for the Infection Prevention and Control activities within the Purdue University Student Health (PUSH) Center. This role annually elevates and enhances the existing infection control plan for the Student Health Center. This position chairs the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and prepares and presents the monthly quality activity report for the Quality Management Committee. The IPNE is also responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, and elevation of educational programs for effective onboarding, retention and professional development focused to support an engaged workforce and exemplary patient outcomes. This role assures compliance with best practices, regulatory, and policy requirements. The IPNE will collaborate with all managers of PUSH to support on-going education and competency requirements and will ensure adherence to regulation and accreditation standards and all related PUSH policies, procedures, guidelines through the infection control plan and appropriate staff education. In this role, you will serve as a leader and role model in advancing clinical practice to achieve better patient outcomes.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana.
  • Current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association. 
  • Five years of nursing experience with skills, knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of duties assigned to the position. 
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of clinical protocol, procedures, and standards within area of nursing expertise. 
  • Ability to provide operational guidance to nursing staff and knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Analytical reasoning to interpret and take action on quality initiative data.
  • Leadership skills within the area of nursing.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effective to small and large groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.



  • Experience as a nursing supervisor and quality improvement experience.
