Job Summary

At Purdue University's College of Veterinary Medicine, you'll play a key role in preparing the next generation of veterinary professionals through hands-on teaching, mentorship, and clinical skills training. In this highly collaborative role, you'll teach, coach, and assess veterinary students as they build essential clinical competencies, while supporting the Veterinary Skills and Competencies (VSAC) curriculum. You'll partner with faculty, veterinary technicians, and hospital teams to create engaging learning experiences, develop innovative training resources, and manage clinical skills laboratories and educational materials. Through individualized student support and a commitment to educational excellence, you'll help future veterinarians gain the confidence, skills, and experience needed to succeed in practice. What you will be doing:

  • Coordinate and support hands-on clinical skills training across the Veterinary Skills and Competencies (VSAC) curriculum. 
  • Teach, supervise, and assess veterinary students while providing coaching and feedback on clinical techniques. 
  • Collaborate with faculty, veterinary technicians, and hospital staff to deliver high-quality clinical skills education. 
  • Develop and maintain training models, instructional resources, and learning materials. 
  • Prepare and manage clinical skills laboratories, equipment, and teaching resources. 
  • Provide individualized support and remediation for students developing clinical competencies. 
  • Assist with additional teaching activities, including surgery labs, veterinary nursing courses, and educational outreach programs.

The starting salary for this position ranges from $52,500 to $56,000 annually, based on experience and skills.

What We’re Looking For:                                

Education and Experience
Qualified candidates will need:

  • Associate degree or Bachelor's degree from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology program.
  • Two years of clinical RVT experience in a veterinary practice or veterinary teaching hospital.
  • Experience must include animal handling and restraint, performing common clinical nursing care procedures, obtaining laboratory samples, assisting veterinarians with diagnostic or surgical procedures.
  • Candidates must be registered in Indiana within six (6) months of hire.

 

Skills needed:

  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • Must have positive attitude and exhibit enthusiasm about learning new skills and teaching others
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; self-motivation and self-direction traits a must
  • Excellent judgment and trustworthiness with ability to make independent decisions within the parameters of an assignment or goal
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality in all aspects of student instruction, assessment, performance evaluation, and academic records
  • Originality and creativity are important, as this position requires developing new teaching materials for the Clinical Skills Laboratory
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally

 

What is helpful:

  • Experience monitoring anesthesia and critical care patients
  • Teaching/instructing experience (classroom or clinical)
  • Experience with a learning management system such as Brightspace
  • Experience with recording and editing videos for instructional purposes
