Job Summary

The International Support Specialist will directly support the immigration counseling and data reporting requirements of a busy international student advising office. In this role, you will work directly with newly admitted international students with regards to the preparation of documents required to obtain their student visas and provide continued support of their required immigration related documentation and reporting requirements. In addition, you will be responsible in assisting SEVIS data compliance for all newly admitted and continuing international students.

 

What You'll Be Doing: 

  • Providing administrative support for the data maintenance and reporting requirements of a large international student population
  • Working directly with sunapsis, Banner and SEVIS to maintain data integrity, data consistency and reporting deadlines between the University and the Department of Homeland Security
  • Engaging in discussions on improving business processes and practices
  • Assisting with emerging technologies and technological improvement projects
  • Assisting with undergraduate admissions pre-arrival communication and procedures
  • Direct and ongoing communication with newly admitted and current students requiring excellent verbal and written communications
  • Handling frequent telephone, email, or walk-in inquiries from students and their parents
  • Advising students regarding maintaining their non-immigrant status and regarding the benefits available under their programs
  • Employing active, creative, and tactful problem-solving skills to resolve concerns and confusion with regard to acquiring and maintaining non-immigrant status

What We're Looking For:

  • Associate degree
  • 1 year of experience working directly with international students, answering general questions pertaining to F-1 and J-1 status
  • In lieu of degree, a combination of education and related experience will be considered. (HS/GED + 3 years of experience) 
  • Familiarity with various software and databases
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • General familiarity with student visas
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced and busy environment
  • Due to Federal mandate, successful candidate must be a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States

 

Nice to Have: 

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working in a large, decentralized college campus environment 
  • Experience with Banner, Sunapsis and SEVIS
