About Our Opportunity:

The Laboratory Animal Veterinary Assistant will work as part of a pre-clinical studies team with the responsibility of assisting with studies involving laboratory animals. This position includes care of animals in a research setting as well as facility upkeep and maintenance. This position requires a person to be flexible, detail oriented and work with a team but also independently. The candidate must perform the necessary functions to fulfill research obligations while staying within animal use protocols and regulatory compliance.

What We’re Looking For:
Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED. 
  • Three years of experience working with animals in a research, clinical, or agricultural setting.
  • Comfortable working with animals in a research setting. 
  • Willingness to learn to work with and handle a variety of species. 
  • Ability to read, speak, and understand English to effectively communicate and understand others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to learn and follow safety procedures; including the wearing of personal protective equipment as required.
  • Ability to work as a reliable member in an established research team and willingness to learn new procedures. 
  • Ability to learn to perform routine animal care and evaluate the general condition of study animals under guidance of experienced staff.
  • Able to work well with others and work in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow written preventative maintenance instructions for a variety of equipment.
  • A valid US or Canadian driver’s license. 

Preferred:

  • NAVTA Veterinary Assistant certification.
  • AALAS certification. 
  • Working knowledge of regulatory compliance issues in animal research.

Additional Information:  

  • This position may require weekend and evening work, including late duties that are rotated among team members as business need.
