Ad: Purdue University seeks to hire a Laboratory Chemist for its West Lafayette (Tippecanoe County) campus. Physical preparation of geologic materials in preparation for chemical separation processes, with focus on obtaining and purifying quartz. Preparation of soils for chemical leaching. Chemical separation of Be, Al, and Cl for subsequent AMS measurement using ion chromatographic techniques, precipitation in controlled pH conditions, and ICP-OES. Preparation of blanks and standards for AMS runs and/or non-standard cathode materials. Organization of materials for AMS runs, preparation of reports for users.
Employer requires a Bachelor's in Physical Geography, Chemistry, Geology, Physics or closely related field, plus 24 months relevant hand's on experience in any role (professional, intern, or student) involving standard techniques of rock preparation. Employer accepts a graduate degree in lieu of the bachelor's degree. Hand's on experience must include: (1) Identification of minerals within rocks, sediments, and soils; (2) Collaborative design of experiments that yield samples appropriate for analysis, including with undergraduate and/or graduate students; (3) calculations necessary for nuclear chemistry carrier experiments; (4) Production of radionuclides in geologic materials by cosmic-ray interactions; (5) Ion chromatographic techniques; (6) Precipitation in controlled pH conditions; and (7) ICP-OES. Background Check Required.
