Laboratory Technician (Histology)

Job Summary

The Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) is seeking a lab technician for the Histology section. ADDL is fully accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) and serves as the official diagnostic laboratory for the State of Indiana. Our mission is to help Indiana veterinarians, livestock producers, and animal owners to protect animal health. Candidates will have a unique opportunity to contribute to identifying and preventing animal diseases, and the disease's affecting public health.

 

The successful candidate will perform routine or specialized diagnostic procedures/tests for visualization of microscopic anatomy of animal tissues, cell structures for the pathologists’ interpretation, in support of the diagnostic and research missions of the ADDL.

 

Pay starts at $19.25 per hour (internal applicants - please refer to Purdue's compensation guidelines). All university employees are afforded a generous benefits package including medical/dental/vision insurance, paid time off, and retirement contributions. Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science related field (Veterinary nursing degrees may also be considered)
  • 6 months of laboratory experience  
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required experience (Associate’s degree and 2.5 years of relevant work experience)
  • Must have the ability to multitask and be flexible in order to accomplish daily tasks
  • Ability to work independently under moderate supervision
  • Training in general biological and/or chemical laboratory procedures/techniques, general reagent/media preparation, and lab maintenance
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify problems, analyze information and implement solutions
  • Capable of being cross-trained with duties and activities of other lab positions to provide back-up coverage
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word (data entry / analysis)
     

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of immunohistochemical procedures
  • Degree in biology or animal sciences
