Lead Academic Advisor

Job Summary

The Lead Academic Advisor will support the College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) with primary advising responsibilities for the Department of Health and Kinesiology.  Responsibilities include academic advising for current students, meeting with prospective students and their families, and supervising other academic advisors. Additional college-wide academic responsibilities include researching best practices, assisting with training current and new academic advisors; serving on committees; and administrative work.



  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or related field
  • Four (4) years of experience with academic advising, student services, student affairs, or counseling
  • Experience with academic advising
  • Excellent oral, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build working relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and parents
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and administer academic policy
  • Ability to facilitate training and orientation activities
  • Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information, and implement solutions
  • Ability and willingness to work in a changing environment
  • Possess a learning orientation to changing technology
  • Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility and handling confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint



  • Experience supervising professional employees
  • Knowledge of undergraduate student recruitment
  • Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue University
  • Familiarity with MyPurdue, Banner, COGNOS 
  • Knowledge of developmental learning theories
