Lead Brand Manager, Strategic Diversity Marketing

Job Summary

Purdue Marketing and Communications was the American Marketing Association’s Marketing Team of the Year for Higher Education in 2020. In conjunction with the Office of the Provost and the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (DIB), has created and is searching for a Lead Brand Manager for Strategic Diversity Marketing who will be responsible for developing and leading the central marketing and communications strategy and efforts related to Purdue University’s Equity Task Force and long-term strategic diversity marketing.
The Office of the Provost, the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (DIB), and Purdue Marketing and Communications are collaborating to coordinate Purdue’s Equity Task Force (ETF), a $75 million dollar, multi-year commitment to increase the number of Black Boilermakers on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, to enhance the quality of their time at Purdue, and to support the success they enjoy as faculty, staff, students and alumni through a comprehensive set of initiatives and action plans around representation, experience and success.  
The primary focus of the Lead Brand Manager, Strategic Diversity Marketing position will be external marketing and communications, geared particularly towards student recruitment while supporting all three ETF pillars and the University’s internal diversity, inclusion, and belonging strategy.
By leading the creation, development, and dissemination of tailored and timely content that resonates with Purdue University’s target audiences, this position's marketing and communications efforts will help propel Purdue’s collective commitment to ensure all members of the university community have the opportunity to experience all Purdue has to offer, including Black Boilermakers. 
As a member of the Brand and Marketing Strategy team within Purdue Marketing and Communications, the Lead Brand Manager will work closely with the Equity Task Force and its constituents, central marketing and communications teammates, cross-campus marketing and communications peers, market research, external strategic partners and marketing agencies, as well as leaders across the campus and system, to inspire and ensure the execution of stellar, on-brand and in-character, audience-centric, diverse, inclusive and insight-informed marketing and communications solutions for Purdue University.
As a multidisciplinary storyteller and champion for Purdue University as a place of diversity, inclusion, and belonging, this position in collaboration with teammates will build greater awareness of, demand, and affinity for the university, enhance its national and global reputation, attract the very best students, recruit the very best faculty and staff, and inspire alumni, donors, and fans.
 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, market research, advertising, or related field
  • Six (6) years of relevant marketing and brand building experience (agency or client-side)
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing and coaching external vendors and marketing agencies to shared success
  • In lieu of a degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
  • Demonstrated commitment and proven ability to advance an organization’s commitment to and results with diversity, inclusion, and belonging
  • A strong passion and discipline for strategic brand building and insight-based marketing
  • Demonstrated high-level ability and examples of proactivity, initiative, and persistence
  • Demonstrated high-level ability and examples of creativity, curiosity, learning agility, excellence, and a desire to continuously improve
  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills to engage effectively with and influence a wide range of constituencies
  • Ability to inspire a shared vision and influence, often without authority, across all levels and functions of an organization
  • Strong problem solving and project management skills
  • A demonstrated understanding of Purdue University's target audiences, their behaviors, and their communication preferences, particularly Gen Z and beyond

  • This position can be remote but must be able to come to campus as business need dictates
