Lead Business Assistant

Job Summary

Purdue University and Purdue Conferences is looking for a person with the ability to work with a diverse internal and external customer base to become its next Lead Business Assistant. As the Lead Business Assistant, you will work collaboratively with departmental faculty, staff, students, and other business units or areas to support the financial management process. Some of the responsibilities include account management, billing and cost center management, effort reporting, and forecasting. Lead daily operations and serve as subject matter expert for account management questions including expenditures, management balance, cash position and closing, and account management guidelines. There will also be a need to develop financial reports for financial planning forecasts or analyze and project data for budget reviews. The right candidate will need to exercise delegated signature approval for a variety of business transactions following delegation policies. Also assist with communication and implementation of payroll, travel, and purchasing. Serve as team lead responsible for training, delegating, and reviewing the work of lower-level employees. There may also be a need to supervise regular, temporary, and student employees or back up the business manager as appropriate.

Required:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Four years of account clerk, bookkeeping, business office, or related experience
  • Experience with SAP and advanced excel spreadsheets
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
  • Knowledge of University policies and practices
  • Ability to work with a diverse internal and external customer base
  • Must demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail 
  • Highly organized and able to work on multiple tasks at one time
  • Ability to take initiative to solve unique and complex problems by utilizing training materials, online resources, university contacts, and personal research
  • Excellent analytical skills with working knowledge of Excel, Word, SAP, and advanced spreadsheet skills desired

 

Preferred:

  • Associate Degree
  • University business office experience
  • CVENT and COGNOS experience
