The Department of Music at Purdue University, West Lafayette invites applications for a Lecturer in Music. The Department seeks a dedicated performer and researcher who will teach undergraduate courses, mentor students, and remain active as a performer while contributing to our music community. While the position seeks to emphasize specialization in the brass or woodwind areas, candidates with expertise in other instruments will also receive strong consideration. Additionally, the ideal candidate engages with music technology as a practitioner, educator, and researcher.
Key Responsibilities
• Teach 4 classes per semester:
• Studio class in the candidate’s area of instrumental expertise
• Three additional courses in the following areas:
• Music Technology
• Music Theory
• Music History
• Participate in departmental and program activities, events, and collaborative initiatives
• Continue activity as a performer
Qualifications
• A Master's degree in the candidate's principal instrument is required; a Doctorate or commensurate professional experience is preferred.
• Experience in teaching and practicing music technology content is strongly desired, but not required
• Teaching experience at the university level (minimum of 3 years desired)

The Department of Music is part of the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance within Purdue’s College of Liberal Arts. Embracing the concept of an augmented STEM approach – SHTEAM2 (Science, Humanities, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math, and Music) – where practice-led research and research-led practice form the foundation of its programs, the department emphasizes a rigorous undergraduate education that prepares students for continued scholarship, research, and professional practice with concentrations offered in music technology, music theory & composition, jazz studies, and general music studies.
