Lecturer
Job Summary
The School of Engineering Education (ENE) at Purdue University invites applications for a full-time, full year (12 months), continuing lecturer position beginning as early as January 2024 and continuing on a yearly basis. The candidate will join the team of instructors of the First-Year Engineering Program at Purdue and will closely work with the faculty and staff at the School of Engineering Education as well as other programs across the College of Engineering such as the Vertical Integrated Projects (VIP) program and the Engineering Project in Community Service (EPICS) program.'
Duties
The continuing lecturer will primarily teach in the first-year engineering (FYE) program, which includes foundational courses, such as, ENGR 13100 - Transforming Ideas to Innovation I, ENGR 13200 - Transforming Ideas to Innovation II, ENGR-13000 – Transforming ideas to Innovations I & II and ENGR-13300 – the EPICS and its VIP version. These courses focus on the engineering design cycle and programming languages, specifically MATLAB and/or Python. Based on enrollment needs, the continuing lecturer may teach other courses in the FYE program and in the multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary (MDE/IDE) program. The teaching load will be three ENGR courses (or equivalent) in each of the academic year semesters and two courses in the summer term. Other responsibilities will include assisting with the curriculum development of FYE courses, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- M.S. or PhD degree in an engineering or closely related field, or MBA with an engineering BS.
- Experience teaching engineering courses at the university/college level.
- Experience mentoring teams of students working on engineering design projects for the community, for research, or for industry.
- Experience with student-centered, active learning pedagogies (cooperative learning, flipped classrooms, etc).
- Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience supervising students or entry-level employees.
- Enthusiastic and passioned about student’s success.
