What You'll Be Doing:
The Maintenance Reliability & Quality Engineer provides expert-level leadership and technical guidance to improve the reliability, performance, and lifecycle management of the university’s facility assets—including academic buildings, residence halls, research laboratories, athletic facilities, and auxiliary spaces. The Maintenance Reliability and Quality Engineer, Lead tackles numerous and often undefined asset problems by gathering detailed data, performing in-depth analysis, and developing innovative solutions.
Along with asset reliability analysis, this position strives to incorporate best practice for general/non-asset related maintenance work in terms of identification, classification and analysis of work to optimize resource allocation, preventative maintenance planning and overall maintenance performance. This involves a deep understanding of the mission of a R1 research university and the non-asset-based maintenance support for university success.
This lead individual contributor role drives Buildings and Grounds maintenance quality assurance enhances SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) processes, and leads reliability initiatives. The position influences standards, supports decision-making, and partners with departmental leaders to strengthen maintenance execution, asset stewardship, and operational continuity across a diverse and complex university environment.

What We Are Looking For:
Education and Experience
Qualified Candidates Will Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Maintenance Management, or related technical field
- 7+ years of progressive experience in facilities maintenance, reliability engineering, asset management, or related technical roles
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills Needed:
- Experience conducting root cause failure analysis, FMEA, asset criticality evaluation
- Ability to read blueprints and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
- Experience with CMMS analytics and processes
- Technical expertise in facilities systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, building envelope)
- Strong knowledge of reliability engineering methodologies and maintenance best practices
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence without formal authority.
- Strong communication, coaching, and facilitation skills
- Ability to work in a large, decentralized, and mission-critical campus environment
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements for campus facilities, including life safety, laboratory compliance, and environmental standards
What’s Nice to Have:
- Higher education, research, or medical campus experience
- SAP PM experience
- Advanced proficiency with SAP Plant Maintenance (PM)
- Certifications such as CMRP, CRE, CRL, IFMA FMP/SFP, or IAM qualifications highly desirable
