Marketing and Publicity Associate

Reporting to the sales and marketing strategic manager of Purdue University Press (PUP), the marketing and publicity associate drives sales, awareness, use, and impact of PUP books, journals, and services. This position will have a key role in advancing strategic priorities and raising the profile of PUP on the global stage. The marketing and publicity associate will be a self-starter capable of balancing and prioritizing multiple tasks while meeting deadlines as an individual and member of a team. Core duties will include aiding in the planning and executing of marketing campaigns to include social media, book reviews, and outreach in alignment with Purdue University’s master brand; identifying new markets, opportunities, and audiences while developing and implementing new strategies to engage readers; and conducting media research. The position will engage with supervisor to establish, develop, and achieve personal professional development goals and performance milestones; participate in strategic planning; and support, imagine, and execute innovation initiatives across PUP. This position offers self-starters a unique opportunity to join a swiftly growing marketing team of an innovative press that sees publishing differently.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field
  • 2 years of marketing, communications, or publicity experience in a professional setting
  • Passion for marketing and publicity
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Proficiency with social media, in particular Twitter and Facebook
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team situation

 

Preferred:

  • Experience or demonstrated interest in professional book publishing.
  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
  • Clearly defined career goals
  • Demonstrated aptitude for self-improvement
