Mechanical Testing Technician / Senior Mechanical Testing Technician

Job Summary:

 

This position will be filled as a Mechanical Testing Engineer or a Senior Mechanical Testing Engineer. The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.

 


Mechanical Testing Technician

The Mechanical Testing Technician is responsible for maintaining, operating, and testing with servo-hydraulic mechanical testing system and training students on the same. Mechanical testing equipment provides prescribed load and/or displacement on a test article via servo-hydraulics or motorized lead screws. Many of these systems contain high temperature and controlled atmosphere chambers, necessary to recreate aerospace flight conditions. Training in the operation and control software for these machines is available.

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, materials engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, civil engineering, or related field
  • One (1) year of experience in laboratory, design, or a testing environment
  • Background working with and fixing machinery
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels, including the ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems, in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure and produce high quality work with attention to detail
  • Technical expertise

 

Preferred:

  • US citizenship is preferred due to requirements of testing contracts
  • Prior knowledge with testing and mechanical behavior of materials

 

Additional Information:

  • This position has a limited duration of two (2) years with continuation dependent upon additional grant funding.
  • Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position
  • A background check will be required for employment in this position
  • FLSA: Non-Exempt (Eligible For Overtime)
  • Retirement Eligibility: Non-exempt Defined Contribution Plan

  • Two (2) years of experience in laboratory, design, or a testing environment
  • Background working with and fixing machinery
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels, including the ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems, in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure and produce high quality work with attention to detail
  • Technical expertise
