Microinjectionist-Purdue Cancer Center

Job Summary

As a Microinjectionist with the Transgenic and Genome Editing Facility (TGEF) in the Purdue Center for Cancer Research, you will be responsible for the generation of transgenic and gene-edited mice and rats by zygote electroporation and microinjection of DNA and CRISPR gRNA/cas9; and gene targeting by electroporation and injection of ES cells into blastocysts for the generation of chimeric mice. You will also be responsible for the preservation and reproductive support of novel mouse and rat lines, by embryo cryopreservation, sperm cryopreservation, in vitro fertilization, and rederivation, You will work independently and be intensively trained, if necessary, in the technical aspects of carrying out these highly specialized services; perform all experimental work, making important decisions regarding altering procedures to accommodate unforeseen problems, and troubleshooting as warranted; assist in the adoption and development of new techniques as they become available in the field; and communicate regularly with the scientific community both within and external to Purdue. Projects will be assigned by the TGEF manager but you will be responsible for organizing and independently performing all experiments involved in a project. You will also assist with the maintenance of the TGEF animal colonies, hormone injections for superovulation of mice and rats, tail biopsies, surgical vasectomies, general lab maintenance, and supervision of one or two animal/lab technicians.

The PCCR Transgenic and Genome Editing Facility (TGEF) is a state-of-the-art facility offering a wide range of services for the production and support of transgenic and gene-edited mouse and rat research models which are instrumental to understanding regulatory mechanisms that control development, growth, metabolism, physiology and a variety of human disease conditions, including cancer. Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in an academic research lab, mouse/rat research facility or similar
  • Skilled in written and verbal communication
  • Strict attention to detail
  • Superior fine motor skills

 

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in microinjection into zygote pronuclei, microsurgery, embryo manipulation, animal handling
  • Embryo cytoplasmic microinjection
  • Zygote electroporation
  • PCR
