Multi Craft Crew Chief - Operations & Maintenance

Through the general direction of a Zone Supervisor the duties of a Zone Crew Chief include but are not limited to: Perform and supervise the repair, installation, and preventative maintenance of university property utilizing and having a strong knowledge of blueprints, schematics, computers programs, technical manuals and catalogs. Contact vendors, engineers, co-workers, and other administrators as necessary in the performance of duties. Assist the Zone Supervisor when requested in the following areas:  Prioritize and monitor activities of zone personnel and functions.  Assist personnel in troubleshooting and completion of work orders in a timely manner.   Take appropriate action to correct material and personnel bottlenecks including making calls to vendors and expeditors. Identify and correct both personnel and equipment safety issues and advise the Zone Supervisor of corrective action taken to prevent reoccurrences. Create, print, and close SAP work orders.  Position is subject to 24-hour call back for emergencies, fire, and vandalism

Required:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Five years of experience in either General Construction, Carpentry or Mechanical to include but not be limited to plumbing and/or steam fitting, Electrical Construction and/or Masonry
  • Must have general craft knowledge including but not limited to general construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, indoor air quality, refrigeration, and lighting.  
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations
  • Computer skills/familiarity with word processor and spreadsheets
  • Ability to successfully complete supervisory training courses
  • Ability to learn and work with SAP
  • A valid US or Canadian driver's license

Preferred:                                                                                                                                                                                 

  • College coursework or Vocational/Technical school

  • Occasional overtime may be required
  • A Background Check will be required for employment in this position
  • FLSA:  Non-Exempt (Eligible for Overtime)
