Required hours will be weekdays between 8am-5pm

The Dean of Students office is looking for a detail oriented Undergraduate to work at our front desk starting as soon as possible. Summer availability preferred as well.  

The Student Office Assistant is a clerical position that assists in the daily operations of the Office of Dean of Students including but not limited to tasks related to customer service and general desk/office work. Must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. 

Some tasks include: Greet visitors. Provide information about our department over the phone and in person. Pay attention to detail. Check in students using their PUID card. Answer phones, transfer calls and take detailed messages. Schedule and cancel appointments. Light database work. Assist office staff with various projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University West Lafayette
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Flexible and dependable with a strong attention to detail
  • Problem solving, logic and reasoning skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Be timely and organized
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintain high standard of cleanliness at front desk
  • Maintain safety and risk management standards of the department
  • Exhibit friendliness, diplomacy, and tact in responding to students and stakeholders
  • Handle emergency situations and prioritize responsibilities while continuing to provide the highest level of customer service
  • Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive information
  • Present ideas to division senior leadership as identified
  • Responsible for all scheduled shifts (based on class/exam schedules for the semester)
  • Must attend all scheduled staff meetings to gain and/or share pertinent information
  • Other duties as assigned

Education

Must be a current Undergratuate student at Purdue. 

Experience

Previous office experience not required.
