Operations Administrator, MEP

Job Summary:

The Operations Administrator, MEP oversees the day-to-day operations and program logistics of the Minority Engineering Program to ensure the highest level of service and correspondence to all stakeholders. This includes supervising a team to carry out daily operations, projects, and initiatives; standardizing and documenting templates for program/event scheduling and coordination; fund management and stewardship; as well as supporting the Director and Associate Director with programs, projects, and reports. This position is the primary contact for MEP and is the first point of contact for providing solutions to day-to-day requests.

The Minority Engineering Program at Purdue University was initiated in 1974 as one of several initiatives to improve diversity and inclusion in the College of Engineering, Purdue's Minority Engineering Program is committed to engineering research and knowledge sharing with the international community through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.

 

Although we strive to attract students from historically underrepresented groups, namely African American, Hispanic American, and Native American; our programs are open to all. MEP has been the key to Purdue's successful graduation of more than 3,000 engineering underrepresented minority students to date. What We Are Looking For:

 

Education and Experience:

 

Qualified candidates will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, or related field
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant work experience in any of the following areas required:
    • Experience in in a broad band of program deliverables, including financial operations, general supervision, customer relations/service, student records, and meeting planning
    • Experience with web-based media, communications, branding and oversight, and content generation
    • Experience in project or operations management, including high-level experience with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation, and calendaring software
    • Experience with composing correspondence, creating presentations, editing document content and context, proofreading, and budgeting
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

 

Skills needed:

  • Must be accomplished in operations management, student and financial records, stewardship, oral and written communication skills, customer relations, teamwork, and organizational skills
  • Time management skills with a good ability to balance the demands of an unpredictable work environment
  • Must be able to multi-task and adapt to the needs of students from different cultural, social, and economic backgrounds
  • Ability to self-start with minimum supervision or instruction
  • Competence in Microsoft Office, PC, and Macintosh systems, web-based applications, and university information systems
  • Ability to interpret policy, solve problems, improve processes, establish and maintain quality procedures, and develop standardization for repetitive assignment
  • Must have a passion for learning new applications, approaches, and methodologies that improves efficiency and minimizing waste in the physical, virtual, and web-based workplace
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion for matters pertaining to the day-to-day functions of office, staff, parent, and student-based activities
  • Must be highly motivated, self-initiating, and a team player

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in servicing students from historically underrepresented groups in the engineering field
  • Prior supervisory experience
