Job Description

The primary role of the Purdue Student Union Board Summer Interns position is to provide event developing, planning, executing, and assessing co-curricular programs over the summer. The goal of this position is to give students valuable real-world experience in the event planning and execution environment, learning to problem solve, and think critically. Students will be equipped with hands-on training within the Student Activities and Student Life Departments. The summer intern position should work 10 to 15 hours per week during the summer semester. Those hours may be worked in any combination, at the discretion of the direct supervisor. The Purdue Student Union Board Summer Interns must be reliable, organized, responsible, and flexible. They must also be ambitious, detail-oriented, creative, and driven.

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety and risk management standards of the department
  • Exhibit friendliness, diplomacy, and tact in responding to customers
  • Handle emergency situations and prioritize responsibilities while continuing to provide the highest level of customer service
  • Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive information
  • Serve and participate on committees within the division to provide feedback from a student lens
  • Present ideas to division senior leadership as identified
  • Responsible for all scheduled shifts (based on class/exam schedules for the semester)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of one semester of college coursework successfully completed
  • Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University or Purdue Global
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Flexible and dependable with a strong attention to detail
  • Problem solving, logic and reasoning skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Be timely and organized
