Job Summary
The Center for Career Opportunities at Purdue University in Indianapolis is seeking a Peer Consultant. The Peer Consultant works under the direction of the Career Services team and is essential to providing career support to undergraduate students. As the Career Services Office, we think it is truly important for students to have an experience that can be translated into their future careers. The Peer Consultants will be able to have the flexibility to provide their own thoughts and ideas for a wide variety of projects.
Located on the first floor of the Sigma Theta Tau Building (STT) in Suite 125, the Center for Career Opportunities office offers career-related services to current students and graduates. Our team of professionals helps with resume templates, crafting cover letters, mock interviews, job search help, and much more.
Prerequisites
• Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student (Sophomore, Junior, or Senior status) at the Indianapolis campus
• Maintain good academic standing with the university (Minimum 2.5 GPA)
• Minimum of one-year work experience
• Commitment for both Fall 2025 & Spring 2026 semesters; availability needed Mondays-Fridays, with exceptions during Academic breaks and holidays
• International and domestic students are eligible to apply
• Federal Work Study Eligible preferred
Qualifications
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills with a desire to help peers
• Self-starter, willing to take initiative to complete projects independently and interdependently with limited supervision
• Desire to collaborate with peers, work as part of a team, as well as develop and demonstrate leadership skills
• Experience presenting to groups or willingness to develop group presentation skills
• Ability to lift 20 pounds and hang posters
• Has some experience with design for posters, flyers, and social media
Position Responsibilities
Facilitate Student Appointments:
• Guide students with resume and cover letter preparation
• Advise students on how to be successful within their LinkedIn and myCCO accounts
Fulfill Outreach Events:
• Facilitate campus presentations and represent the CCO at campus events (classes, student organizations, student life resources)
• Attend career events and help with set up, tear downs, and promotion
Utilize Technology
• Use BoilerConnect to set up availability for student appointments and provide detailed notes post appointments
• Leverage Teams to communicate with the CCO staff
• Utilize marketing programs such as Canva and Marq to create flyers, posters, and social media graphics
• Manage social media platforms such as Instagram and LinkedIn
