Job Summary

The Language Learning and Meaning Acquisition Laboratory at Purdue University, directed by Dr. Arielle Borovsky, is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to join an interdisciplinary and dynamic team carrying out an NIH-funded longitudinal project of language learning and outcomes in children with and without a history of late-talking.  The postdoctoral scholar will be an integral contributor and participate in development, testing, analysis, and dissemination activities in the project.  The scholar will be encouraged to integrate and develop independent projects within the scope of the project.

The main responsibilities include overseeing study development and data processing, conducting behavioral assessements and eyetracking studies with young children with and without a history of late-talking, and active participation in dissemination of findings and preparation of grant proposals. Additionally, the successful candidate will be encouraged to build mentorship and collaboration skills through work with other members of the lab at various career levels.   Opportunities to participate in interdisciplinary collaborative projects with other faculty members involved in the grant (statistics/data science, HDFS, psychology), and with other lab collaborators both within and outside of Purdue are also encouraged.   

This post-doctoral researcher will be housed in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA, which is one of the largest and highest ranked Speech-Language Pathology programs in the country. The Department is diverse and collegial and includes a thriving interdisciplinary community of top-notch researchers and clinicians dedicated to translational research across the lifespan. The successful candidate will have ample opportunities to capitalize on extraordinary networks of collaborations and resources within and outside of the department (e.g., Advanced Methods at Purdue, Center for Brain, Behavior, and NeuroRehabilitation, Center for Early Learning; and Purdue Institute for Integrative Neuroscience). 

Position Details

Duration/type: 2+ years, full-time

Expected start date: Ideally between August 2025 and January 2026, though our goal is to find the best fitting candidate, and discussions for other timelines are possible.

Qualifications: 

• PhD in a broadly related field (e.g., cognitive science, computer science, psychology, learning sciences, linguistics, speech-language-hearing sciences)
• Strong research background and experience in relevant research methodologies and language science.  Experience conducting eye-tracking studies preferred but not required. 
• Proficiency in analytical coding environments (e.g., R, Python).
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team of diverse backgrounds. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in processing large data sets collected over multiple time points is a plus.
• Prior experience in clinical research or clinical training is a plus.
