Job Summary

Post-doctoral Position for Microbiologist in Antibiotic Drug Discovery 

 

The laboratory of Dr. Daniel Flaherty in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Purdue University is seeking a post-doctoral research associate in the field of microbiology to support NIH funded drug discovery efforts against novel antibacterial targets of interest in our laboratory. The laboratory is a highly interdisciplinary environment with medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, and structural biology teams all supporting antibiotic drug discovery efforts in search of novel inhibitors for Enterococcus and Neisseria gonorrhoeae pathogens. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience contributing to the drug discovery process for advancement of innovative molecules against these pathogens. Required degree/skills: PhD (or expected PhD) with experience in microbiology/bacteriology supported by peer-reviewed publications. Required experience includes pre-clinical antimicrobial evaluation of antibacterial agents (MICs, killing kinetics, etc), resistant mutant isolation and analysis, bacterial genetic manipulation, target identification. Desired Skills - Candidates who have experience directly working with Enterococcus and/or performing in vivo efficacy models with Enterococcus are encouraged to apply.

World Class Facilities

The candidate would have access to world-class facilities and instrumentation to support their work. Other responsibilities include managing data, managing strain library, maintaining a laboratory notebook, assisting graduate students in microbiology, and manuscript preparation. This position is funded in part by grants from the National Institutes of Health in search of novel inhibitors for new antibacterial targets. The position offers a competitive salary commensurate upon experience plus benefits and is contingent upon meeting progress milestones. The successful applicant will be assessed for productivity on a bi-annual basis with the option of yearly renewal if agreed upon by both parties.
