Job Summary
Purdue University invites applications for a 12 month (FY) Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a Templeton Foundation–funded multi-year project led by Drs. JP Messina, Brian Kogelmann, Jesse Crosson, and Logan Strother. The project is “The Neglected Safeguards of Liberalism.” Here is a summary of the project:
While traditional safeguards—such as constitutions with separated powers, checks and balances, and guaranteed individual rights—are well studied, less-examined institutions also play a critical role in sustaining liberal political orders. These "neglected safeguards" include political parties, interest groups, civil society organizations, business firms, unelected government officials, universities, public schools, administrative agencies, social and professional norms, and more. Our team will systematically examine how these neglected safeguards protect both civic and economic freedoms and expand awareness of their role in doing so for both scholarly and civic audiences.
We are looking for a postdoctoral research associate to conduct research on one or more of the neglected safeguards of liberalism. This is a three-year research appointment with no teaching obligations and dedicated annual funding to support research, travel, and scholarly collaboration. The position begins January 2027.
