Prep Lab Coordinator

The Biology Prep Lab coordinator supports the biology lab instructional activities of students, graduate students, staff and faculty. They will work under limited supervision and be responsible for managing and maintaining equipment and consumables inventory in CHAS Biology Central Prep and Supply, as well as performing receiving duties for the CHAS building. This position will manage and inventory stored equipment, devices, supplies and consumables, anatomical models, and biological specimens for each Biology lab course in CHAS. They will also facilitate all biohazard waste processing, disposal, and REM pickup, as well as daily plant, animal and culture media transportation from LSA, PHAR, and LILY to CHAS.  As part of the department operations team, they will work closely with the assistant department head and in coordination with the building deputy, lab instructors and department maintenance and facilities managers to develop and implement process and operational procedures. Receiving duties will include receiving and processing shipments and deliveries for CHAS in partnership with the building deputy and Chemistry department staff.  This is a full time 12-month appointment. 


Required:

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in Biology or related science
  • Two years’ experience in inventory, operations, or lab management or similar activity
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, with a strong commitment to excellent customer service Self-motivated, highly organized with meticulous attention to detail 
  • Must be able to work well in teams
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Outlook, and Word, and Adobe Acrobat Pro 
  • Able to operate basic laboratory equipment including steam autoclave  
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive Department utility van
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25-50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally

 

Preferred:

  • General knowledge and understanding of work performed in biology instructional labs
