The Operations Director oversees a wide range of essential functions supporting faculty and students at the West Lafayette, Indianapolis, and Statewide campuses. Key responsibilities include managing operations, equipment, setup, maintenance, and safety for more than 40 advanced engineering technology instructional labs—each housing multi-million dollar equipment. This role also supervises multiple instructional specialists and lab supervisors, manages the capital equipment budget, oversees purchasing for both instructional and research labs, and coordinates facilities planning and space management. In addition, the Operations Director ensures standardization in the operation and maintenance of engineering technology instructional lab equipment across all eight campuses.

What We Are Looking For :

Education and Experience

Qualified candidates will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, management, education, or related field.  
    Minimum of 6-7 years of experience in various leadership roles supervising technical staff, managing projects, administering programs, managing budgets, developing and implementing customer or student service programs, or working in other similar areas within industry or higher education. 
    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. For example, an associate’s degree and 8-10 years of experience 


Skills required:


  • Natural tendency to lead by example, with an unquestioned service-minded work ethic
    Ability to motivate, lead successful teams, and supervise effectively
    Strong initiative-taker, organizer, problem-solver, and attention-to-detail planner
    Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
    Proficient use of personal computers and standard software including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and internet browsers
    Ability to read, interpret, communicate and adhere to University policies and procedures
