Job Summary
The Student Leadership Assistant Director oversees the overall development and implementation of educational student leadership and training opportunities under limited supervisor for Residential Life. This position will utilize their experience and areas of specialization to participate in the development and implementation of departmental policies, processes and procedures including documenting processes, determining partner roles, expectations and support strategies related to and impacting student leadership development and student staff training. Will continually assess and evaluate leadership & training programs and implement new program initiatives. Responsible for cultivating relationships, facilitating communication and implementing collaborative efforts with recruiting and developing student leaders, and with all student staff training processes including the Fall and Spring training programs and all supplemental training throughout the academic year. Provide advising support to system student leadership organizations and act as a resource to Residential Life Neighborhood team. Support the strategic vision of Purdue University Residences residential campus environment which offers students opportunities for personal growth through relationship building within a residential campus environment. Share in the student-centered focus while cultivating relationships, facilitating communication, and implementing student training efforts with campus partners and community leaders and ensure a collaborative effort in serving student leadership opportunities for over 14,000 students with a commitment to student development, academic success, supervision, teamwork and communication. Serve as primary leadership team member responsible for cultivating the student staff training development program for over 400 student staff. Assist in campus wide student leadership and development efforts for students and participate as a member, advisor, or chair to related committees. Work on a variety of projects relating to student leadership and student development. Collaborate with campus and external partners to ensure the most up to date information is being shared with student staff regarding campus processes and resources. Regularly scheduled evening and weekend hours required. This position may assist with the Residential Life On-call coverage as needed. Peak initiatives included but not limited to fall move in process, spring check out, summer conference assistance, and other division and institutional projects.

What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education or related field.
- Four years of experience in Residential Life or Student Affairs, student organization advising, program administration, human resources, student affairs, residential life, or related.
- Graduate experience, assistantships and internships will be considered towards the minimum experience.
- Ability to support a culture of professionalism in alignment with unit values
- Skills in decision making/problems solving, continuous improvement/change management, strategic thinking, financial management, and drive for results.
- Skills in supervision, leading others and promoting teamwork in daily work activity.
- Ability to work and thrive under limited supervision.

- Ability to work effectively with individuals from different viewpoints and backgrounds.
- Desire to increase knowledge and skills through on-going development activities.
- Knowledge of issues facing multicultural students.
- Sensitivity to cultural, political, and geographical differences, with the ability to work well with a diverse student body.
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- A valid US or Canadian Driver's License.
