Job Summary
As a Program Assistant at the Office of Indiana State Chemist (OISC), you will be part of a nationally recognized team that strives to protect the public and the environment by ensuring that pesticide products distributed within the state are properly labeled. Under limited supervision, you will work independently to navigate the processes of pesticide product registration, provide compliance guidance and assistance internally and externally utilizing prior experience and expertise to analyze complicated issues as they arise and collaborate with EPA and other State Lead Agencies on pesticide product related issues.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Assisting in the regulatory review of pesticide product labeling
- Communicating with the regulated community on pending applications, label review, regulation requirements and overall labeling questions
- Processing new applications, revised label reviews and renewal applications for pesticide registrations
- Internal collaboration between various teams within the pesticide department, regulated industry, state regulatory counterparts, as well as state and federal regulatory agencies
- Interpreting and being able to communicate both state and federal pesticide laws and regulations for regulated industries and the general public
- Processing, sorting and scanning incoming paperwork
- Representing OISC in state, regional, and national workgroups
- Supporting OISC programs and mission to meet a variety of goals, initiatives and objectives
- Assisting with special projects or programs assigned by OISC management, such as internal audits, cross team training and support, and process improvements
What We're Looking For:
- High school diploma/GED
- 3 years related work experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to interpret laws and regulations, resolve conflict and prioritize work in stressful situations.
- Ability to manage a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities.
- Proficiency with computer and common business software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat, Access)
- Database management and customer service skills
