Program Coordinator - Extension

Job Summary

The Program Coordinator - Extension will involve the design, development, and delivery of research-based educational materials for Agronomy extension educators.  The materials will be dispersed to county extension educators for use with consumers, external educators, and local community partners. You will provide administrative services to Extension faculty and staff and will serve as a resource for field staff, faculty and stakeholders.


  • Work with state-level extension leaders to plan and deliver training for field staff, set programmatic priorities, and manage reporting responsibilities
  • Directly support the faculty, staff and students affiliated with the Agronomy Extension and Diagnostic Training Center (DTC)
  • Serve as the main point of contact between Extension personnel with stakeholders, clientele and the public
  • Coordinate and execute Extension events, seminars and DTC workshops
  • Building and maintaining relationships with clientele, maintaining and improving Extension online presence (e.g., Website, social media), creating marketing materials, handling purchases and travel requests, and developing and invoicing contracts
  • Work with the Agronomy Awards Committee to promote and coordinate awards nominations and packet submission
  • Provide accounting services (e.g., contracts, invoices, purchases) for the various Extension programs and the DTC and serve as liaison to the business office
  • Brainstorm, plan and implement stakeholder activities (e.g., special events, campus visits, roundtable discussions) to build relations, to assess needs, and to develop action plans for effective communication and training
  • Provide support for Extension programs such as, but not limited to, preparing training materials, taking meeting minutes, handling travel requests and expense reports, screening and directing calls and visitors, coordinating press releases, and collecting and disseminating information.
  • Participate in the organization of 25-30 Extension events, seminars, conferences and workshops each year; coordinate arrangements for small to large venues for 20-700 attendees at each event.
  • Serve as the primary contact for event logistics (e.g., coordinate speakers, select vendors, organize catering, review and sign off on contracts, prepare financial reports and training materials)
  • In collaboration with the Extension Faculty Coordinator and DTC Director, brainstorm, develop and implement marketing strategies and communication plans for Extension and DTC activities
  • Work with the College of Ag and Provost's Office to support and promote the Department's and University's goal of increasing the number of awards by our faculty


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Related experience
  • In lieu of degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered (Associate's degree + 2 years of experience; HS/GED + 4 years of experience)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and professionalism with ability to influence and build working relationships (e.g., customer service, positive attitude, team player)
  • Systems skills to handle bills, purchase products, and reconcile travel (e.g., SAP, Ariba, Concur); possess a learning orientation to changing technology and software
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint
  • Ability to develop marketing and educational materials (e.g., print, digital)
  • Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multitask, work under pressure, handle frequent interruptions and meet deadlines
  • Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information and implement solutions
  • Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility and handling confidential information with discretion



  • Experience with creating, implementing and presenting Extension Programs and Workshops
  • Knowledge of Agriculture field
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and InDesign and/or Macromedia Dreamweaver (or similar web authoring software) and social media
  • Working knowledge of Purdue business office functions, processes and procedures
