Radiation Safety Officer and Industrial Hygiene Manager - Radiological & Environmental Management

The successful candidate will provide and direct the financial, operational and personnel activities of the Radiation Safety and Industrial Hygiene areas of Radiological and Environmental Management Department (REM). Provide technical seasoned guidance on ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and serve as the Radiation Safety Officer. Serve as liaison to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Indiana State Department of Health. Serve as the organizer of the Radiation Safety Committee and serve on other University committees as needed.  Assist to develop plans for Radiation Safety and Industrial Hygiene and direct plan implementation.  Assist the Director to develop university and operational policies, procedures and goals.  Serve as an advisor for campus environmental health and safety issues and assist campus stakeholders in operational and research areas.

This position could be filled at the next higher level. The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.


  • Master’s degree in Health Physics, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry or related science field 
  • Three years’ of progressive managerial experience in environmental health and safety in a research or industrial setting
  • In lieu of a degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work
  • Certification in Health Physics or another specialty area by a nationally recognized organization  
  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret state and federal regulation related to environmental health and safety
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills 
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 


  • Ph.D. degree
  • Four years’ of progressive managerial experience in environmental health and safety in a research or industrial setting
