Job Description

The primary role of the RecWell Gaming Broadcast Specialist position is to assist in the complete execution of live esports broadcasts for varsity teams in Overwatch 2, Marvel Rivals, Valorant, Rocket League, and League of Legends, as well as tournaments and special events. This includes setting up production equipment, preparing game-specific video feeds and overlays, operating the live show from our broadcast studio, monitoring stream quality, and neatly tearing down after an event. The goal of this position is to give students valuable real-world experience in a professional live production environment, with opportunities to serve as a technical director, manage graphics, and observe gameplay. This position should work 8-15 hours per week during the current semester, which may be worked in any combination at the discretion of the direct supervisor.

 

Prerequisites

The ideal candidate:

  • Has basic knowledge of at least two of our varsity esports titles (Overwatch 2, Marvel Rivals, Valorant,
    Rocket League, League of Legends)
  • Is enthusiastic about technology and live broadcasting
  • Is familiar with production tools such as OBS Studio, VMix, Bitfocus Companion, NDI, and computer networking; and basic audio and lighting equipment
  • Brings a collaborative attitude and works well under pressure

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of one semester of college coursework successfully completed
  • Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University or Purdue Global
  • Previous work or volunteer experience within live streaming, video production, or esports preferred, not required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Flexible and dependable with a strong attention to detail
  • Problem solving, logic and reasoning skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Be punctual and organized

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities

  • Operate the broadcast studio during live events, overseeing audio and video
  • Assist with setup and teardown of production equipment, including camera, lighting, and audio
  • Coordinate with commentators, game observers and other production staff to ensure broadcasts run smoothly
  • Serve as in-game observer when needed for certain titles
  • Perform occasional live chat moderation and answer audience questions about the event
  • Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive information
  • Serve and participate on committees within the division to provide feedback from a student lens
