Job Summary

Purdue University’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is seeking a dedicated Referral Coordinator to support student access to mental health services and ensure continuity of care. In this essential role, you’ll work directly with students to assess needs, coordinate referrals, and help them connect to internal and external providers. You’ll also manage communication with insurance companies and local care partners, maintaining up-to-date referral systems and serving as the point of contact for all Uwill referrals.

 

Collaborating closely with the Associate Director of Operations and the Clinical Services Director, the Referral Coordinator supports CAPS care navigation processes, contributes to care management initiatives, and helps streamline referral workflows and resources. You'll also take part in campus-wide engagement by leading mental health training efforts, including serving as a QPR Gatekeeper trainer for students, faculty, and staff. All services are provided in person, onsite.

What We Are Looking For

Education and Experience:

 

Required:

  • High school diploma and four (4) years of experience 
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted

 

Preferred:

  • Associates degree in Social Work, Psychology, or other Human Services related field and  two (2) years of experience in a medical facility, office administration, healthcare, mental health, social work, case management, or related field

 

Skills:

 

Required:

  • Must demonstrate tact, patience and excellent oral/ written communication skills in dealing with patients, peers and external partners. 
  • Must be able to relate well to students, staff, faculty, and other constituents with the ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with campus departments, student groups, and colleagues
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including excellent communication skills (written, oral, and presentation)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to complete multiple tasks in a busy environment are essential and prioritize work appropriately. 
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to perform effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Respecting and maintaining confidentiality is critical
  • Must demonstract accuracy, proficiency, and efficiency in documentation of referrals

 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of community-based resources and experience coordinating services, including experience with case management
