The Department of Agriculture and Biological Engineering is seeking a Research Associate. This position will conduct data analysis and research to support the new Science Assessment for the Indiana Nutrient Reduction Strategy, with the goal of developing standard procedures for estimating nutrient load reductions from conservation practices on the landscape. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:


  • Compiling and synthesizing data on nutrient load reduction from implementation of agricultural conservation practices around the Midwest
  • Working with conservation agencies and researchers to develop consistent definitions of conservation practices and processes by which nutrient loads occur
  • Assessing the performance of existing water quality models and tools in estimating monitored nutrient load reductions
  • Developing and validating a new procedure or tool for this estimation
  • Documenting all analyses and tools so they are fully transparent for all users, and write reports for funders



  • Master's degree
  • Experience with data analysis
  • In lieu of degree consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required experience (Bachelor's degree + 2 years of related experience)
  • Familiarity with Midwestern agriculture and water quality
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
