Field Technician

Job Summary

The current research team for agricultural projects focuses on how cover crops and other management strategies alter nutrient and sediment losses from the landscape. The Research - Field Technician will support researchers in conducting field experiments by using farm equipment and machinery to apply herbicide chemicals and fertilizer applications and to plant and harvest crops. In addition, you will be responsible for collecting, processing and analyzing soil, plant, water and air samples and performing simple maintenance and calibration on field instruments.  Additional duties will include:

 

  • Identifying minor issues and recommending appropriate solutions
  • Cash and cover crop planting and cash crop harvest to support field research activities
  • Incorporating appropriate QA/QC on a set schedule for field instruments
  • Identifying area of concern and recommending solutions to PI

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1 year of experience working in a field research setting
  • Strong experience with operating farm level equipment
  • Agronomic understanding, farm level understanding
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel to record and calculate data
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word to write reporting of results
  • Ability to travel

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science
  • Experience with soil or environmental research
  • Ability to operate farm level equipment
