Research Scientist, Birck Nanotechnology Center

Job Summary

The research scientist will oversee the research in the optical and thermal characterization recharge facility at Birck. They will use an  understanding of materials, devices and measurement techniques to mentor users, optimize measurements and explore novel research topics. They will maintain, protect and grow the equipment investment and promote the facility to the research community with the goal of creating a vibrant and self-sustaining recharge facility.

 


Required:

  • MS degree or higher in: ME, ECE, physics, or other relevant fields.
  • At least four (4) years of research or industrial laboratory experience (including while pursuing MS/PhD degree)
  • Strong background in near-field optics experimental setups
  • Experience in maintenance and operation of cryostats
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, strong presentation skills

 

Preferred:

  • Thermal characterization using time-domain thermal-reflectance, Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence, Fourier-transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy experience
  • High spatial resolution measurement methods such as SEM, near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM or SNOM) experience
  • Electronics including lock-in amplifier, impedance analyzer, vector network analyzer, high-speed oscilloscope experience
