Job Summary

The Research Security and Export Controls (RSEC) Analyst at Purdue University ensures compliance with immigration policies, research security regulations, and U.S. export control laws.  This role manages tasks such as scholar and student visa reviews, processes Change of Duty Requests, reviews international travel, supports the development and auditing of Technology Control Plans, Research Security Plans, and Risk Mitigation Plans, as well as reviewing contracts and international shipments and provides guidance on research security, export controls and sanctions compliance as assigned.  The Analyst mitigates risks related to foreign influence, research security, export controls, sanctions, and intellectual property protection while ensuring adherence to federal and institutional policies.  Additionally, they may conduct preliminary export control and/or research security analysis for risks in international collaborations, foreign travel, international conferences, and potential technology transfers.  This position requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills to conduct compliance reviews, optimize workflow processes, the ability to multi-task and maintain institutional records, to effectively communicate with university stakeholders and leadership, and to support a secure and collaborative research environment.

 

Work Location:  This position is eligible for hybrid, remote work, or to work in the office, subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., international relations, compliance, or business administration)
  • Two or more years of experience in export controls, compliance, contracting, investigations, audits, or similar areas
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of required education and related work experience
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills
  • Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty
  • Highly thorough and dependable
  • Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply complex federal, state, university, and accreditation regulations pertaining to export controls
  • Basic understanding of US export control requirements, policies, and federal regulations, including NSPM-33 requirement
  • Familiarity with federal and institutional regulations on export controls including, but not limited to, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) under the jurisdiction of the Department of State, or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) under the jurisdiction of the Department of Commerce
