Job Summary
The Research Animal Care Technician, Lead is a Working Lead supporting the Facility Manager in ensuring the appropriate operations of the facilities assigned. IN this capacity, the individual in the position will act as a recognized specialist in the care animals in the centrally managed animal facilities - mice to horses. In addition, they will have responsibility for assisting the Facility Manager in the oversight of the assigned facilities. This includes serving as the team lead responsible for training, delegating, and reviewing the work of lower level Animal Care Technicians in the area.
What We're Looking For:
- Associate's Degree
- Three or more years of animal care related experience
- One year of research animal care
- Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of required education and related work experience
- LATG Certification required within 3 years if not LATG certified on hire
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to work in Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Box and navigate rodent breeding software
- Ability to pull/push large heavy equipment; push/pull equipment up and down ramps, repetitive lifting/turning/bending/reaching
- Ability to enter stalls or caging with large animals (cow/horse/sheep/pig) and work in the stall with the animal present
- Ability to exhibit professional behavior in speaking with all staff (Purdue and non-Purdue interactions)
- Attention to detail
- Knowledge of and skills in rodent breeding
- Detailed animal health and husbandry knowledge for the animals housed in the assigned are
- Signed off in all species on campus
- Introductory knowledge of gnotobiotics and maintaining isolators
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as alone
- Ability to work overtime and on weekends/holidays as needed
