Research Technician

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for screening small molecules and investigating their anti-aggregation activity on hyperphosphorylated tau, a relevant target for Alzheimer’s Disease. The technician will be involved in the hyperphosphorylated tau project using routine biophysical assays (e.g. ThS fluorescence assays, circular dichroism, dynamic light scattering, isothermal titration calorimetry, electron microscopy, photo-induced cross-linking of unmodified proteins) and cell-based assays.

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in animal science, biology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, or closely related field
  • Six months of work experience in basic research techniques
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience
  • Knowledge of biology, biochemistry, pharmacy, drug discovery, and medicine
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, such as attention to detail and thorough record keeping
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Willingness to learn new laboratory techniques and procedures
  • Ability to collaborate with other lab team members
  • Word processing, spreadsheet, database and/or desktop publishing software, presentation software skills

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with cancer cell culture techniques and/or common molecular biology techniques
  • Experience in drug screening, biophysics, and chemical synthesis
