Job Summary

The College of Education at Purdue University invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant position in AI in Education Contexts. This position is supported with funding from the Purdue University Office of Research from the Ross-Lynn Endowment. The recipient of this support will be given the title “Ross-Lynn Postdoctoral Research Scholar.” 

 

The selected candidate will collaborate with faculty, staff, and students on interdisciplinary projects, research, and other initiatives surrounding practical and ethical applications of AI in education contexts from K-12 to higher education. The PostDoc will work under the supervision of the Chair of the College’s AI Working Group, in coordination with the Associate Dean for Research, Graduate Programs, and Faculty Development on college-wide AI initiatives which may include: (1) Collaborate with faculty and graduate students on AI-related research and publications; (2) assist with organizing the annual Purdue AI in P12 Education Conference; (3) report relevant AI research, news and policies to the AI Working Group and further develop the College’s AI Initiatives webpage; (4) organize and host the college’s Bi-Weekly AI Lunch & Learn Series; (5) develop short “translational” research products (e.g., briefs, videos, animations, podcasts, infographics, interactive figures) to guide AI education policymaking and teacher classroom practices; (6) assist with development of new AI-focused courses and programs; (7) teach 1 to 2 AI-focused courses; (8) assist faculty seeking to integrate AI into their own courses; (9) assist with writing of AI-related grants; and (10) collaborate on the development of new AI agents, platforms or tools for use in education contexts.

 

This is an on-campus fiscal year position (12 months) with a start date of August 12. The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of an extension to a second year pending performance and availability of funding.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in a subfield of Education or a technology-related field supplemented by relevant K-12 education professional experience. Degree conferred by the expected start date.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in AI and its practical and ethical applications in education contexts (e.g., K-12 education, higher education). 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent academic writing ability.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of AI tools for use in education contexts.
  • Expertise in qualitative, quantitative and/or mixed-methods research.
  • Skills in developing AI platforms, agents, or other tools for use in education contexts.

Salary

$60,000 annual
