The College of Liberal Arts is seeking a Senior Administrative Assistant to provide high-level administrative support for the Department of English, helping advance student success, academic excellence, and community engagement.
In this role, you will serve as a key partner to faculty, staff, and students, supporting graduate and undergraduate programs, coordinating events and recognition initiatives, and helping create a connected, engaging experience for the department. Through your organization, attention to detail, and commitment to service, you will contribute to an environment where students and colleagues can thrive while supporting Purdue's mission of education, discovery, and impact. Responsibilities Include:
- Administer the graduate admissions process, help current graduate students move through their degree programs successfully (filing plans of study, etc.), and support the Director of Graduate Studies in other ways as needed.
- Help organize undergraduate recruiting events and support the Director of Undergraduate Studies in other ways as needed.
- Coordinate the department’s annual Literary Awards competition (and High School Competition).
- Coordinate, advertise, and support departmental events through the College of Liberal Arts and the University Calendar.
- Manage updates to English department website and associated websites, including ADA compliance.
- Serve as backup to the Head’s assistant and Academic Program Manager as needed.
What We’re Looking For:
Required:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Three years of experience in an administrative support role.
Skills Needed:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle frequent interruptions, balance multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to detail.
- Advanced computer and related software skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, etc.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels within and external to the university to support department needs.
- Ability to interpret policies and procedures to proactively resolve issues or improve processes.
- Ability to identify problems and implement or recommend solutions.
- Drafting, proofreading and editing skills.
